WHAT PEOPLE THOUGHT ABOUT US
MIN KIM (VOLUNTEER)
I first decided to do this volunteer work because the team leader and her members were my friends. But I made the final decision to help Shelves of Hope because I already knew the poor condition of the library when I visited the Picasso Orphanage with the team leader prior to the project.
I could not believe that the young kids still have to use the library when it is about to collapse. To achieve the goal of quality education, the team worked hard for two music shows and many cookie deliveries so that the children can have an environment where they receive a better quality of education.
From the experience with Shelves of Hope, I learned so many concepts that I will not, otherwise, be able to learn at school. I learned to be very thankful for the quality of education that I was given, and learned the importance of the library since it is one of the fundamental facilities for students to receive quality education.
This experience opened myself up to broader perspectives and the community.

This experience opened myself up to broader perspectives and the community.
- By helping out with the music show, I communicated with a lot of people and changed myself from a shy, quiet, and inactive person to a brighter person.
- By helping out with the cookie deliveries and holding the bake sale, it helped me to become closer with my friends.
- By participating as a volunteer for Shelves of Hope, not only was I able to help in fixing the library, but it was also an opportunity for me learn outside of school and to change my personality.
JUNGHOON CHOI (VOLUNTEER)
Over the last few months, I had an opportunity to work as a volunteer for Shelves of Hope. I was able to work closely with the group members and understand the meaning of this project and its goals.
The project organized ways to raise funds to purchase essential materials for the children in a local orphanage and in my opinion, it was a great success. We had a few visits to the orphanage to ensure the materials they really needed, and listen to the people working at the orphanage about the situation and what the specifically need.
As a small organization, we weren't able to raise significant amount of funds to donate to the orphanage, but I believe it was a very meaningful act for the group to organize events that involved participation of school staffs and students to raise money.
My experience with the group allowed me to be more reflective of myself and my actions. I realized how important people's engagement in different events, especially in school is impactful while working with the group members to promote for out events.
The groups members were very engaged in the project and performed their roles to their very best. I witnessed their hard work and commitment to the project and saw that their engagement was more than just a project or a volunteer work, but something they were really motivated to work for.
Overall, I believe Shelves of Hope was a great experience for me, and I was able to undergo several new experiences that came along with the success of the project as well."

I have never seen a charity group with such amazing devotion and creativity. From the fantastic music events to the cookie delivery service, I enjoyed taking part in the group events and seeing the three girls put so much effort into every little detail. Shelves of Hope was able to engage the student body and raise awareness for students not only in school but also outside of school. I wish the group with great success and happiness in the future.

Flash Fire was an intimate evening featuring quality performances by students, alumni, teachers, and children from the Picasso Orphanage. Bravo to Shelves of Hope for hosting, to the amazing performers, and of course to the audience for supporting a beautiful cause.

"Flash Fire" was an event organized by a few juniors from the American International School. It was very organized, to the point that performers such as myself didn’t really have to worry about technical issues because of how well they handled it.
It’s remarkable how they were able to put on a show that great in such a short time, and still be able to gather performers not only from their school, but also other private and public schools.
I thoroughly enjoyed the music event as a performer and an audience because there were little to none transition issues, and everything went very smoothly.
It was surprising how they were even able to squeeze in a small birthday party in the middle of the show for one of their members, proving how much chemistry one member had with another. As young as the organizers were, the show they put on was nothing short of a remarkable event. 10/10 would join again.

Shelves of Hope was a really thoughtful, genuine, and caring organization that puts in their best efforts to aid the community. Through my interactions with the amazing people behind the group, I can feel their passion and devotion to make the world a better place for everyone to live in, and it truly inspires me. Although I am a small individual, they inspire me to do better things and enable me to feel important as I am contributing to the community, the children’s future, when I participate in their events.
